Summary
A figurine of a huntsman with gun. Part of a surtout-du-table (table centre) of a boar hunt. Made at the Sevres factory, France c.1870 in unglazed hard paste porcelain (biscuit). Presented to the 6th Lord Vernon by the French Government in recognition of his work as Chairman of the French Peasant Farmers' Seed Fund in the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian War 1870-71, helping to prevent famine.
Provenance
Vernon collection transferred to the Treasury in 1967 following death of 9th Lord Vernon, and transferred to The National Trust in 1967
