Summary
Metal tin in red, green and gold with a hinged lid marked 'Finest Red Gum and Menthol Pastilles'. Under lid - 'prepared by Smith and Co., 132 Borough, London SE. Established 1780'. Inside: a. George III penny dated 1797; b. 13 stone marbles; c. scrap of paper in Beatrix Potter's hand 'Hill Top Farm 1905-6. Old penny out of lock box on front door. Marbles found in holes in walls during building.' d. James II coin dated 1680 and e. newspaper cutting describing similar coin. (HIL.MISC.94a-f).
