Summary
Bronze oriental sculpture of a heron, half asleep, standing with one leg raised, its neck shrunk in, its half-closed eyes gilded. On a lily leaf base which has a small panel of calligraphy. Finely engraved feather detail. Known in the family as the 'Massing Bird'.
Provenance
1944, gifted to the National Trust by Field Marshal Sir Archibald and Lady Montgomery Massingberd.
