Summary
One of a pair of plated tea canisters contained within tea caddy (GUN/F/189). The rectangular canisters with reeded bands at base and shoulder rising with engraved scrolling over the shoulders to the round neck and slightly domed detached cover. a) engraved on one side with the history of the caddy and its descent,having been presented to Mary,Countess of Haddington by its creator...'A PEASANT'.....from her to her daughter,Mary,Countess of Rothes,and from her to her second son Peregrine,husband of Mary Anne Massingberd (misspelt with only a single 's'),and on the reverse with the coronets,initials and dates of demise of the two countesses. b) engraved with the Langton-Massingberd crests and Peregrine Massingberd's birth date.
