Summary
A walnut and burr walnut davenport or writing desk, English, circa 1850. The hinged fall with leather inset, enclosing four drawers, the body with a panelled cupboard enclosing three drawers to one side and a small pen drawer to the other, the fall supported by fluted turned columns meeting a plinth base, raised on gadrooned feet.

Gifted to the National Trust by Field Marshal Sir Archibald and Lady Montgomery Massingberd in 1944.
