Summary
A walnut and beech high back open armchair, English, circa 1880. 17th century style, with twist turned and beaded uprights to the back with carved terminals. Pierced scroll carved back terminating in griffin heads at the top supporting a basket of fruit with a similar feature on the front rail. Lions holding scrolls form the front legs and bobbin turned stretchers. Heraldic lion needlework cover worked by Lady Diana Montgomery-Massingberd (1872-1963).

Gifted to the National Trust by Field Marshal Sir Archibald and Lady Montgomery Massingberd in 1944.
