Summary
Engraving, coloured engraving, Presumed to be images from a Dance of Death in the Hungerford Chapel, Salisbury Cathedral, lost when the chapel was demolished in 1789-90 (after J. Lyon) by Thomas Langley (d.1751). Copy after the medieval wall painting in Hungerford's Chapel ,Salisbury Cathedral. The scene of a young man in fashionable mid 15th century dress and a risen corpse standing together in a green field,the coffin of the latter visible. Inscriptions above,in old english,record their discourse concerning death. The engraved border of simple moulding superscribed- 'An Exact copy of an Antient Painting as large as the Life in Hungerford's Chapel at the east end of Salisbury Cathedral'. Published c.1748.Two remains of a printed description of Hungerford's Chapel and its patrons stuck on the rear panel. Woodworm and silver fish damage.
