Summary
Watercolour drawing by J Burrell Smith after a sketch by Charles Langton Massingberd of Ayton Castle, Scottish borders. The embattled castle in the middle distance with green fields and trees before. A road in the foreground with three figures,two adults and a child. Signed J Burrell Smith and dated 1865. Gilt frame - en-suite with GUN/D/102. Label on reverse records title and author,also the instruction-- 'Please give to Mrs Brassi( ?) L Amy. Handwriting probably that of Emily Caroline Langton Massingberd.
Provenance
1944, gifted to the National Trust by Field Marshal Sir Archibald and Lady Montgomery Massingberd.
