Summary
Watercolour drawing by Peregrine Massingberd of Interior of Courtyard of Chateau de Pau. Buildings of various dates enclosed in composition. Tower to right,well-head below,gables,turrets and dormer windows filling perspective. Groups of figures in courtyard.Three labels on reverse-two fragmentary,one in handwriting of Field Marshal recording the subjectincluding portraits within composition-- Col.Larison,Peregrine Massingberd,a dwarf,a pilgrim girl,a royal servant,a peasant,etc. Signed PM 1824 according to Field Marshal,but signature not seen 1991,presumed to be behind mount. Gilt gesso frame. Chateau de Pau was birthplace of Henry IV.
