Summary
Portrait miniature, Oil painting on card, The Rev. Algernon Langton Massingberd (1803-1844) by British (English) School. Early 19th century. Half-length portrait, facing left and looking down, seated in a green upholstered chair, wearing a black coat, maroon waistcoat, white shirt with a frilled front and black tie. Gilt metal slip. Contained in a tooled leather case. Also contained in the case a note -- 'My beloved Algernon Died Sept 24th 1844 at Gunby' and a lock of hair attached to a piece of paper inscribed -- 'My Algee'.
