Summary
Portrait miniature, An Unknown Young Man, attributed to Benjamin Arlaud (Geneva c.1670 – London after 1731). Miniature on ivory of an 18th century gentleman, bust length,in a powdered full bottomed wig, facing right, wearing a cuirass and a red sash. Rectangular ebonised frame. Inscription by GH, dated 1926 suggests that, from evidence of backing papers in the frame, this may have been a gift of Mrs Rich (formerly Mrs A Massingberd to her niece Emily Caroline Massingberd).
Provenance
1944, gifted to the National Trust by Field Marshal Sir Archibald and Lady Montgomery Massingberd.
