Summary
Clock: French bracket clock. Brown turtle (tortoise) shell decoration with ormolu simulation brass mounts. Mid- 19th century. The circular cast brass dial, with black and white enamelled Roman numeral panels, the shaped case with domed top, surmounted by a winged figure, holding a trumpet, the glazed case, with ormolu simulation brass foliate swags and inscribed THURET A PARIS, the apron cast with foliate scrolls and urns and centred by a plinth supporting two doves, the slightly bombe sides on foliate cast scroll supports headed by acanthus scrolled angles. A case maker’s mark was found under the detachable top on the arched rail. This is LESAGE. Antoine Nicolas Lesage (1784 – 1841) was as one of the most important Paris merchants, though frequently recorded as a cabinet maker. Two-train pendule movement, striking on a single bell.
