Summary
Print, hand-coloured lithograph, Ivybridge Viaduct published by Spreat and Dawson in 1848. One of the five timber viaducts designed by I.K.Brunel for the Atmospheric South Devon Railway in 1845-48. When the atmospheric system was scrapped in favour of trains drawn by conventional steam locomotives all these viaducts had to be strengthened to take the heavier loads. They have now all been demolished but their masonry piers may in some cases still be seen.
