Summary
Bronze, Augustus of Prima Porta, cast Pietro Chiapparelli (active 1850-1900), Rome, 1865, after the antique. A bronze reduction of the Augustus of Prima Porta, a full-length 1st century AD marble statue of Caesar Augustus, Emperor of Rome (63 BC – 14 AD), discovered at the Villa Livia in Prima Porta near Rome in 1863 and now in the Vatican Museums, Rome. Inscribed 'P. CHIAPARELLI F: ROMA 1865' on proper left side of base. Mounted on a separately cast bronze base and moulded marble base.
