Summary
Two substantial buildings can be seen on the right of the photograph, one with the partial inscription “S. Giovanni di Man”. A group of soldiers is standing in front of these buildings. On the opposite side of the road, to the left of the photograph, a group of 7 is standing looking at a rectangular concrete foundation, apparently all that remained of the Posto di Ristoro. Edith Teresa Hulton (1890-1972), later Lady Berwick, worked as a Red Cross volunteer in a variety of locations in north-east Italy in the Italian war zone during World War I. She married Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick of Attingham (1877-1947) on 30th June 1919 in Venice, Italy. The Posto di Ristoro at San Giovanni di Manzano was one of the locations where Edith Teresa Hulton, later Lady Berwick served during the First World War.
