Summary
A monochrome photograph showing a full length image of Edith Teresa Hulton. She is wearing a white Red Cross uniform with long white apron and white sunhat. She is standing in front of a small wooden building with military vehicles and Italian soldiers in the background. She is looking at an Italian Army officer who is walking towards her with his back to the camera. Undated although possibly May 1916 which is the date given to the photograph beside this one on the same page. “March. Berlingiere, self” is written in pen beneath the picture. “taken by Bar.Cavalchini Garofolo, Malta train” is written in ink under both photographs on this page. The second photograph on this page is identified as being “S. Giov. Di Manzano” which is San Giovannni di Manzano in the Province of Udine which was close to the front line and may infer this photograph is the same location. Photograph Number 19 of 20 photographs, on Page 21 of Edith Teresa Hulton’s Personal Album: Zona di Guerra October 1915 – May 1916 (see CMS Number 610239.1). Edith Teresa Hulton (1890-1972), later Lady Berwick, worked as a Red Cross volunteer in a variety of locations in the Italian war zone during World War I. She married Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick of Attingham (1877-1947) on 30th June 1919 in Venice, Italy.
