Summary
A monochrome photograph showing Edith Teresa Hulton and Mabel Campbell next to a troop train. They are wearing light coloured dresses covered by long aprons and sleeve covers. Mabel Campbell is wearing a Red Cross armband. Both wear straw sunhats. They are carrying empty mugs and an enamel milk pail. Between them stands a soldier in uniform wearing a Red Cross armband. There are other soldiers on the platform and on the train. On the top right hand corner of the album page, written in ink are the words “S. Giovanni di Manzano” followed on the line below with “Ott, Nov, & Dic. 1915” Photograph Number 1 of 20 photographs, on Page 1 in Edith Teresa Hulton’s Personal Album: Zona di Guerra October 1915 – May 1916 (see CMS Number 610239.1). Edith Teresa Hulton (1890-1972), later Lady Berwick, worked as a Red Cross volunteer in a variety of locations in the Italian war zone during World War I. She married Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick of Attingham (1877-1947) on 30th June 1919 in Venice, Italy.
