Summary
A monochrome photograph showing an Italian soldier in profile leaning with his left arm on the top of a railing. In the distance are some trees and hills. “il fotografo” (the photographer) is written in ink below the photograph inferring that this is the photographer of the sequence taken on leaving the Soldiers’ Canteen at San Giovanni di Manzano (see CMS Numbers 610239.11 - 15). Undated but possibly early 1916. Photograph Number 14 of 20 photographs, on Page 14 of Edith Teresa Hulton’s Personal Album: Zona di Guerra October 1915 – May 1916 (see CMS Number 610239.1). Edith Teresa Hulton (1890-1972), later Lady Berwick, worked as a Red Cross volunteer in a variety of locations in the Italian war zone during World War I. She married Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick of Attingham (1877-1947) on 30th June 1919 in Venice, Italy.
