Summary
A monochrome photograph showing two small, wooden, single storied huts in the background forming the Soldiers’ Canteen at San Giovanni di Manzano, Italy. Edith Teresa Hulton is seen standing facing the camera in front of the buildings. She is wearing a dark, winter suit, collar and tie, a fox fur tippet draped around her neck and a straw hat. She is wearing the Red Cross armband on her left sleeve. Undated but assumed to be late 1915 or January 1916 due to its sequential position in the album. Photograph Number 11 of 20 photographs, on Page 11 of Edith Teresa Hulton’s Personal Album: Zona di Guerra October 1915 – May 1916 (see CMS Number 610239.1). Edith Teresa Hulton (1890-1972), later Lady Berwick, worked as a Red Cross volunteer in a variety of locations in the Italian war zone during World War I. She married Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick of Attingham (1877-1947) on 30th June 1919 in Venice, Italy.
