Summary
A monochrome photograph showing a small, wooden, single storied hut with metal chimney and two windows. Over the door three flags are flying, one of which is the Union Jack. It is a soldiers’ canteen at San Giovanni di Manzano, Italy. In front of the canteen, there are two trees and a large, open topped car is parked. Undated but assumed to be late 1915 due to its sequential position in the album. Photograph Number 9 of 20 photographs, on Page 9 of Edith Teresa Hulton’s Personal Album: Zona di Guerra October 1915 – May 1916 (see CMS Number 610239.1). Edith Teresa Hulton (1890-1972), later Lady Berwick, worked as a Red Cross volunteer in a variety of locations in the Italian war zone during World War I. She married Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick of Attingham (1877-1947) on 30th June 1919 in Venice, Italy.
