Summary
A postcard sized, monochrome, professionally produced photograph of the delegates to the Smyrna Conference in 1919. Four senior officers are seated at a conference table. Eleven more junior staff are standing behind them. The postcard is overprinted with:“Tous droits reserve Phts Edtrs. de Padova Freres Rue Franc 116.” on the top left; “Délégés de la Commission d’enquêtes leurs attachés dans la salle des séances Smyrne 3/9/19” on the top right. The delegates are named in pencil under the postcard: “Left to right standing, Lt. Vitalis (French) Lt. Dunn (U.S.A) Lt. Higham (British) Major Fago (Italian) Lt. Rumerchène (French) Capt. Harris (British) Lt. De Bosio (Italian) Lt Stewart (U.S.A) Mr Cheeseborough (USA) Lt. Dugourcy (French) Lt. Villari (Italian) Secretary General to the Mission Seated Gen. Hare (British) – Gen. Lt Luigi Villari is the son of Lady Berwick’s grandmother by her second husband Pasquale Villari. The Conference was an Inter-Allied Commission of inquiry into the conflict between Greece and Turkey
