Summary
A faded monochrome photograph of 6 people aboard a gondola. Five people are sitting, with Gioconda Hulton second from the left adjusting her hat, while one man in a white shirt is standing in the rear, rowing the boat. Written in pencil above photograph: 'Feb 1908 by Bim' and below photograph: 'Deola, Gio, Carlo Brandolini, Consy, Giorgio Viola, Lulo Blaas rowing'. Photograph 24 of 227 contained in Volume 3 of Costanza Hulton’s personal photograph albums (1906 - 1919). Gioconda Mary Hulton was the sister of Edith Teresa Hulton, later Lady Berwick (1890-1972) who took this photograph. 'Bim' is short for Bimbele, the family nickname for Edith Teresa Hulton. The other subjects are ‘Deola’ not otherwise identified, mentioned once in Edith Teresa Hulton’s diaries; Conte Carlo Brandolini, Giorgio Viola and Baron Lulo Blaas (an artist) were among the Hulton girls’ younger friends. 'Consy' is Constance Houison Craufurd, an old friend of the Hulton family. See also National Trust Inventory Numbers 610177.22 - 610177.24, 610177.26 and 610177.27.
