Summary
A monochrome photograph of a gondola (barca) on water, with Gioconda Hulton and her younger sister Edith Teresa sitting in the centre of the boat and George Eustis standing towards the front. The oarsman can be seen in the rear of the boat and some white buildings can be seen in the background. Written in pencil below photograph: 'Gio, Bim, Eustis' and 'Feb or March 1908'. Photograph 21 of 227 contained in Volume 3 of Costanza Hulton’s personal photograph albums (1906 - 1919). Gioconda and Edith Teresa Hulton were the daughters of William Stokes Hulton (1852-1921) and Costanza Hulton (1863-1939, née Mazini). 'Bim' is short for Bimbele, the family nickname for Edith Teresa Hulton. She became Lady Berwick when she married Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick of Attingham (1877-1947) on 30 June 1919. George Eustis was an American whom Teresa Hulton once thought of marrying. See also National Trust Inventory Numbers 610177.23 - 610177.27.
Provenance
8th Lady Berwick collection; bequeathed to the National Trust by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972).
