Summary
Percussion rifle by Samuel Ebrall, Shrewsbury (active 1845-1868), c1860. The rifling used on this gun was patented (No. 1078) by Lord Richard Berwick in 1860. Barrel: Round rifled barrel with flat top, stamped at the breech, RIFLED BY LORD BERWICK. Front sight adjustable for windage and rack and pinion rear sight marked, WHITWORTH PATENT. Retained to the stock by 2 barrel slides. Length 81.7cm. Calibre 11.5 mm Stock: Walnut full-stock with chequered wrist and fore-stock. Fitting for auxillary aperture sight behind barrel tang. Steel furniture comprising; buttplate, trigger guard with “pistol-grip” extension, 2 ramrod pipes. Horn fore-end cap. Ramrod missing but replaced by cleaning rod with brass jag and horn knob. Lock: Percussion lock with boarder line engraving, signed Saml. Ebrall maker, Shrewbury. Retained to the stock by 2 sidenails.
