Summary

A monochrome photograph of William Stokes Hulton (1852–1921) with his eldest daughter Gioconda Mary Hulton (1887-1940), Mr Spence, and Miss Samuelson in Belluno. The group are walking in a street with Gioconda Hulton second from left and William Hulton at the extreme right. All four people all have their backs to the photographer and are walking away from the camera towards a large white building. Written in ink underneath the photograph: 'Sept 1901 Belluno', 'Fabris' and 'Mr Spence, Gio, Miss Samuelson, Willy'. Photograph 4 of 134 contained in Volume 2 of Costanza Hulton's personal photograph albums (1901 - 1906). William Stokes Hulton and Gioconda Mary Hulton were the father and sister of Edith Teresa Hulton, later Lady Berwick (1890-1972).'Mr Spence' is assumed to be William Campbell Spence (d. 1927), an art connoisseur born in Florence who was a close friend of the Hulton family. Letters from William Campbell Spence to Edith Teresa Hulton are in the Attingham Collection, Shropshire Archives Accession 112; many of these are signed with his nickname of 'Mino'.'Fabris' is assumed to be the photographer. This photograph was taken in Belluno a town and province in the Veneto region of northern Italy, located approximately 100 kilometres north of Venice
