Summary
A monochrome photograph of William Stokes Hulton (1852-1921) holding an umbrella, standing next to a rowing boat that contains four people: his wife Costanza (Zina) Hulton (1863-1939, née Mazini), their eldest daughter Gioconda Mary Hulton (1887-1940), Linda Villari (1836-1915, née White) mother of Costanza Hulton, and Charles Edward Hulton (1881-1954) son of William Hulton’s elder brother Jessop. Woodland and mountains can be seen in the background of the photo. Written in ink underneath the photograph: 'Willy, Nonna, Gio, Zina, Charlie' and 'the same'. Photograph 46 of 134 contained in Volume 2 of Costanza Hulton's personal photograph albums (1901 - 1906). 'Nonna' is the Italian for 'grandmother' and is a reference to Linda Villari. ''the same' refers to details of the photographer written under another photo - see National Trust Inventory Number 610168.37. This photograph was taken in Mittenwald, Bavaria, by Richard Freer Austin who was married to Harriet Alyne Austin (née Hulton) the elder sister of William Hulton.
