Summary
A monochrome photograph of a group of eight people sitting and standing on a veranda outside a chalet. The group is made up of five females and three males and includes various members of the Hulton and Villari families. Written in ink underneath the photograph: 'Willy, Alyne, Zina, Nonna, Nonno, Charlie, Bim, Gioconda' and 'the same'. Photograph 42 of 134 contained in Volume 2 of Costanza Hulton's personal photograph albums (1901 - 1906). In the back row of the photograph from left to right are following people: William Stokes Hulton (1852-1921) the father of Edith Teresa Hulton; Harriet Alyne Austin (1851-1923, née Hulton) the elder sister of William Stokes Hulton; Costanza Hulton (1863-1939, née Mazini) the mother of Edith Teresa Hulton, known as 'Zina'; Linda Villari (1836-1915, née White) the mother of Costanza Hulton, Gioconda and Edith Teresa’s 'Nonna', i.e. 'grandmother'; Pasquale Villari (c1827-1917) the husband of Linda Villari, Gioconda and Edith Teresa’s 'Nonno', i.e.'grandfather'. He was a Florentine academic and senator. Left to right in the front row are: Charles Edward Hulton (1881-1954) the son of Jessop Henry Fletcher Hulton (1848-1928) the elder brother of William Hulton; Edith Teresa Hulton (1890-1972), often referred to as 'Bim' or 'Bimbele' her family nickname, who became Lady Berwick when she married Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick of Attingham (1877-1947) on 30 June 1919; Gioconda Mary Hulton (1887-1940) the sister of Teresa Hulton. 'the same' refers to details of the location and photographer written under another photograph - see National Trust Inventory Number 610168.37. This photograph was taken by Richard Freer Austin, the husband of Harriet Alyne Austin, in the Bavarian resort of Mittenwald. It is believed to have been taken in August 1903.
