Summary
A monochrome photograph of a group of seven people sitting and standing outside a chalet. A goat is also visible to the right of the photo. The group is made up of six females and one male and includes members of the Hulton family. Written in ink underneath the photograph: 'Alyne, Zina, Willy, Maria, Gioconda, Bim, Leni' and 'the same'. Photograph 41 of 134 contained in Volume 2 of Costanza Hulton's personal photograph albums (1901 - 1906). 'Bim' is short for 'Bimbele' the Hulton family nickname for Edith Teresa Hulton. She became Lady Berwick when she married Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick of Attingham (1877-1947) on 30 June 1919. Also featured in the photograph are the following people: 'Willy' is William Stokes Hulton (1852-1921) the father of Teresa Hulton; 'Zina' is Costanza Hulton (née Mazini) (1863-1939) the mother of Edith Teresa Hulton; Gioconda Mary Hulton (1887-1940) is the sister of Edith Teresa Hulton; Alyne is Harriet Alyne Austin (1851-1923, née Hulton), the elder sister of William Stokes Hulton; Maria is Maria Salimbeni, a household servant to the Hulton family in Venice. 'the same' refers to details of the photographer and location written under another photograph. This photograph was taken by Richard Freer Austin, the husband of Alyne Austin, in the Bavarian resort of Mittenwald. It is assumed to have been taken in August 1903.
