Summary
A monochrome photograph of Gioconda Mary Hulton (1887-1940), the older sister of Edith Teresa Hulton, kneeling next to an upside-down bicycle. To the rear of the bicycle Charles Edward Hulton (1880-1954) can be seen sitting in a chair resting his feet on some railings. Written in ink underneath the photograph: 'Charlie and Gioconda' and 'the same'. Photograph 38 of 134 contained in Volume 2 of Costanza Hulton's personal photograph albums (1901 - 1906). Charles Edward Hulton was the son of Jessop Henry Fletcher Hulton (1848-1928) and his first wife Brada. 'The same' refers to details of the photographer written under an adjacent photograph - see National Trust Inventory Number 610168.37. The photograph was taken by Richard Freer Austin who was married to Gioconda's aunt Harriet Alyne Austin. This photograph was taken in Mittenwald, a resort in Bavaria. It is believed to have been taken in August 1903.
