Summary
A monochrome photograph of Gioconda Mary Hulton (1877-1940) with her younger sister Edith Teresa Hulton (1890-1972), standing together on a sandy beach at the Lido, Venice. Both are wearing hats. Written in ink underneath the photograph 'Gioconda & Bimbele Lido 1894' and 'Mrs Blundell Leigh'. Photograph 48 of 102 contained in Volume 1 of Costanza Hulton's personal photograph albums (1886 - 1901). Gioconda Mary and Edith Teresa Hulton were the daughters of William Stokes Hulton (1852-1921) and Costanza (‘Zina’) Hulton (née Mazini) (1863–1939); Edith Teresa Hulton married Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick of Attingham (1877-1947) on 30th June 1919. 'Bimbele' was Edith Teresa’s family nickname. The photograph was taken by a Mrs Blundell Leigh who is assumed to be Lady Rose Nevill (1866-1913), daughter of the first Marquess of Abergavenny, who married John Blundell Leigh in 1887.See also National Trust inventory numbers 610136.50 - 610136.52.
