Summary

A monochrome photograph of a group of 10 people (four males and six females) including Costanza (‘Zina’) Hulton (née Mazini) (1863-1939), and her eldest daughter Gioconda Mary Hulton (1887-1940) in a rowing boat on Lago de Ghedina in 1891. Written in ink underneath the photograph: 'Mr Tomlin, Mr Birch Reynardson, Zina, Lisa Stillman, Gioconda, L. Harrison, Miss Mitchell, Marion & Dolly Waterfield, Mrs Tomlin Lago di Ghedina' and 'Maud Harrison 1891'. Photograph 20 of 102 contained in Volume 1 of Costanza Hulton's personal photograph albums (1886 - 1901). Costanza (‘Zina’) Hulton was the mother of Edith Teresa Hulton, later Lady Berwick; Gioconda was her elder sister. Herbert Frederick Birch Reynardson (1835-1939) was a composer of songs, mainly hymns and carols and also an arranger of folk songs. Mr Tomlin is assumed to be Thomas Charles Chesshyre Tomlin (1867 - 1935) a barrister and law lord. In 1893 he married Marion Waterfield. Lisa Stillman was the daughter of an American journalist whose step-mother, the artist Marie Stillman corresponded with the Hultons. L. Harrison is Leonard Frederic Harrison (1869 - 1943), a stockbroker who was acquainted with Marion and Dolly Waterfield.Marion Olive Waterfield married Thomas Charles Chesshyre Tomlin in 1893. Dolly Waterfield is Dorothy Waterfield, the sister of Marion Olive Waterfield. The photograph was taken by Frances Maud Harrison, the sister of Leonard Frederic Harrison. Lago di Ghedina is one of several small lakes located close to the town of Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Southern Dolomite region of Northern Italy.See also National Trust Inventory number 610136.22
