Summary
A monochrome photograph of William Stokes Hulton (1852-1921) with his daughter Gioconda Mary Hulton (1887-1940) and 'Whisky' the dog, sitting in a gondola. A bridge is visible in the background. Written in ink underneath the photograph: 'Willy and Gioconda Venice 1889 R. Austin'. Photograph 13 of 102 contained in Volume 1 of Costanza Hulton's personal photograph albums (1886 - 1901). William Stokes Hulton was also the father of Edith Teresa Hulton, later Lady Berwick. The photograph was taken by Richard Freer Austin, husband of Harriet Alyne Austin (née Hulton) elder sister of William Stokes Hulton. The photograph was taken in Venice where the Hulton family lived at Calle della Testa 6383, San Zanipolo. The family referred to the house as Casa Hulton; it was previously known as Ca’ Donà dalle Rose.
