Summary
Jacket; Bolero - Embroidered bolero. Cotton cut pile velvet. Blue/black, originally purple. Embroidered in gold metal thread cords. Braids, sequins and small coloured beads (with each sequin). Design - border of scrolls and lines. And stylised plant form. Yellow worsted plaited braid. a) Pink and white cotton 'gingham' throughout; b) printed paper at edge only (unreadable). Round neck, no sleeves (edging missing), embroidered border down front and round to back, worked through linings a) and b). 19th century.
Provenance
Found under floorboard on 1st Floor F11 during asbestos removal 1989-90. Probably used as Fancy Dress/Theatricals. Attingham collection; bequeathed to the National Trust by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972).
