Summary

Embroidered panel in unused condition. Embroidery on satin. Ivory silk warp faced satin weave, embroidered with bullion work. Metal gilt thread couched with cream linen thread. Design; flower and leaf scroll. White linen plain weave. Satin supported by lining with panel of embroidery worked to one side. One selvage, cut on all sides with shape left by the removed stomacher. Found in envelope on which label was written: 'from Coronation robes of the Lady Berwick wife of the 7th Baron worn at the Coronation of Edward VII'. Handwritten note by 8th Lady Berwick reads: 'Embroidered Stomacher and Sleeve pieces from Coronation robes of the Lady Berwick wife of the 7th Baron worn at the Coronation of Edward VII'. Ellen (d.1934) married Richard Henry Noel-Hill, 7th Baron Berwick in 1869, widowed 1897; attended the Coronation of Edward VII in 1902 with her nephew Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick.
