Summary
One of two fragments. Embroidered cuff / sleeve piece. Ivory silk warp faced satin weave, embroidered with bullion work. Metal gilt thread couched with cream linen thread. Design; flower and leaf scroll. White linen plain weave. Embroidery worked to oblong panel supported by lining, cut on four sides. Found in envelope on which label was written: 'from Coronation robes of the Lady Berwick wife of the 7th Baron worn at the Coronation of Edward VII'. Handwritten note by 8th Lady Berwick reads: 'Embroidered Stomacher and Sleeve pieces from Coronation robes of the Lady Berwick wife of the 7th Baron worn at the Coronation of Edward VII'. Ellen (d.1934) married Richard Henry Noel-Hill, 7th Baron Berwick in 1869, widowed 1897; attended the Coronation of Edward VII in 1902 with her nephew Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick.
