Summary
Crimson silk velvet placket. Crimson silk warp and weft; crimson silk warp cut pile. Tapered and folded placket with four metal eyes button holed. With the five fragments of silk velvet (ATT/TC/195/2/A-E) but not from the same garment. Compare fabric descriptions. It is the same as the Coronet fabric (see ATT/TC/195/9). Handwritten note by Lady Berwick reads: 'Pieces for Ellen, Lady Berwick's Coronation Robes'. Ellen (d.1934) married Richard Henry Noel-Hill, 7th Baron Berwick in 1869, widowed 1897; attended the Coronation of Edward VII in 1902 with her nephew Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick.
