Summary
One of five crimson/purple silk velvet fragments. Crimson silk velvet. Black silk warp; purple silk weft; magenta silk warp cut pile. See Fragment Form. Velvet cut from the 1902 Robes when altered for the 1937 Coronation. Handwritten note by Lady Berwick reads: 'Pieces for Ellen, Lady Berwick's Coronation Robes'. Ellen (d.1934) married Richard Henry Noel-Hill, 7th Baron Berwick in 1869, widowed 1897; attended the Coronation of Edward VII in 1902 with her nephew Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick.

Ellen, 7th Lady Berwick (d.1934) collection; adapted for use by Edith Teresa, 8th Lady Berwick and bequeathed to the National Trust by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972).
