Summary
Machine lace border. Off white machine woven border. Design; to resemble Flemish lace, small leaf motif on a mesh ground. Straight footing and heading seamed to form continuous band. English manufacture circa 1900. Handwritten note on envelope by Lady Berwick reads: 'Bit of Old Lace to be mended in Venice'.
Provenance
Found in envelope in white box with letter and Note. Label on Box A) 'Old lace to be repaired'. B) 'Burano lace - Mrs Hulton' (only Burano piece identified is ATT/TC/156). Found in box 14 pieces of lace ATT/TC/181-194. 8th Lady Berwick collection; bequeathed to the National Trust by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972).
