Summary
One of two bobbin lace cuffs, made of a border of cream cotton thread bobbin lace, mesh ground, gimp outlined motifs. Design; repeat 75 mm. Floral spray and two sprig flowers. Straight footing, vertically straight heading, seamed either end to form cuffs. Made in Buckinghamshire, late 19th century. Note written by Lady Berwick on envelope reads: 'Pieces of Old Bucks to be repaired'.
Provenance
Found in envelope in white box with letter and Note. Label on Box A) 'Old lace to be repaired'. B) 'Burano lace - Mrs Hulton' (only Burano piece identified is ATT/TC/156). Found in box 14 pieces of lace ATT/TC/181-194. 8th Lady Berwick collection; bequeathed to the National Trust by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972).
