Summary
One of three lengths of application lace border. a) - c) Off white cotton thread, machine woven, square mesh ground. Bobbin lace motifs with cordonnet. Design; repeat 42 mm scallop swag and bell with flower and two dots. a) Straight footing, heading follows design, hemmed either end. b) and c) Straight footing, heading follows design, cut on either end. Made in Belgium or France circa 1850.

Found in straw box with other laces and notes written by Lady Berwick (1890-1972). 8th Lady Berwick collection; bequeathed to the National Trust by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972).
