Summary
Lace border - Reticello lace partlet/border. Cream undyed linen thread on cut linen ground, lace worked in buttonhole stitch. Design; repeating 30 mm square crossed. a) Linen bobbin lace edging 15 mm; b) edging 04 mm. Lace forms rectangle for neckline, edged with a) on inner edge and b) on outer edge. Almost certainly 16th century but possibly c.1900 copy as these laces were revived at this later date and worked both in Italy and England.

Found in straw box with other laces and notes written by Lady Berwick (1890-1972). 8th Lady Berwick collection; bequeathed to the National Trust by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972).
