Summary
Blue silk Red Cross headdress. Dark blue silk plain weave crepe. a) Cream and red wool flannel (Red Cross Badge); b) black silk cord; c) four sided hem stitch. Interlining (?) only at front to stiffen. Hemmed four sides, machine sewn and applique. Part of the uniform worn by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972) who worked for the British Red Cross at Carvignano in Italy, following the outbreak of the 1st World War, for which service she received the Croce di Guerra from the King of Italy. A photograph of Teresa Hulton wearing her dark Red Cross headdress while working in Florence in 1918 can be seen by viewing National Trust Inventory Number 610177.218.
