Summary
Pair of Dress Trousers, part of a Diplomatic Uniform 5th class Attaché 1903. Full Dress and Levee Dress. Blue/black wool raised nap, with gilt thread braid in a design of scrolling stem with leaves. Black silk edging; five black buttons 13 mm diameter; seven black buttons 16 mm diameter. Cream silk satin weave; black silk satin weave; black linen plain weave glazed; grey cotton twill weave. Hand and machine sewn. Hand written note with uniform, 'Diplomatic Uniform 5th class Attaché 1903. Full Dress and Levee Dress; Blue cloth coat, single breasted, stand collar lined with black silk, black velvet collar and cuffs gold lace no oak leaves. Buttons; gilt mounted the royal arms, without supporters; surmounted by the imperial crown. Boots; military patent leather. Hat; Black beaver cocked hat with black silk cockade. Black ostrich feather border.......' Made in 1903 for 8th Lord Berwick by T.W. Cook and Sons & Co., Diplomatic Tailors, London. Lord Berwick entered the Diplomatic Service in 1903 and was posted to Paris.
