Summary
Dress coat, part of a Diplomatic Uniform 5th class Attaché 1903; Full Dress and Levee Dress. Blue/black wool raised nap. Blue/black silk velvet. Gilt bullion cords 1.3cm and 0.4cm. Thirteen gilt buttons as a) trimming, two hooks and eyes, five metal studs Black silk satin weave with padded areas, cream silk satin weave. Dark brown cotton twill weave. Hand and machine sewn, two flaps at waist, two tail pockets. Hand written note with uniform, 'Diplomatic Uniform 5th class Attaché 1903. Full Dress and Levee Dress; Blue cloth coat, single breasted, stand collar lined with black silk, black velvet collar and cuffs gold lace no oak leaves. Buttons; gilt mounted the royal arms, without supporters; surmounted by the imperial crown. Boots; military patent leather. Hat; Black beaver cocked hat with black silk cockade. Black ostrich feather border.......' Made in 1903 for 8th Lord Berwick by T.W. Cook and Sons & Co., Diplomatic Tailors, London. Lord Berwick entered the Diplomatic Service in 1903 and was posted to Paris.
