Summary
Green/blue silk fragment, original lining of Octagon Room cupboard doors, diagonal grille marks showing where colour has faded. Silk Square piece cut on all sides, folded in two. In 1813 Thomas Donaldson of Shrewsbury provided 'Ten Cupboard Doors in Octagon Room of finest Spanish Mahogany veneer upon Spanish Wood fitted up with patent Brass Latticework... plus the cost of the silk to line the lattice work'.
Provenance
2nd Lord Berwick collection: Thomas Noel Hill, 2nd Baron Berwick (1770 – 1832). By descent bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
