Summary
One of five grey/gold damask fragments. Cotton and silk. Renaissance design. a) one selvage cut on three sides; b) one selvage cut on three sides; c) as a); d) two selvages cut irregular; e) as D. Jacquard woven; gold silk warp; grey cotton weft; warp faced satin weave motifs; unbalanced plain weave ground, reversed loom width 575 mm (22.5/8 in) 1/2 drop repeat. 435 mm. Renaissance source, 2 motifs; a) stylised vase with plant form; b) crown. Made in England circa 1900
Provenance
Found in a chest of drawers at Attingham in 1992 and presumed to be part of the Attingham collection. Bequeathed to the National Trust with the estate, house and contents of Attingham by Thomas Henry Noel-Hill, 8th Baron Berwick (1877-1947) on 15th May 1953.
