Summary
Fragment of green silk curtain. Part of a set of twenty-one items of window curtain furnishings. As ATT/T(Gill Medland Cat)/015. b) plain green satin. c) ivory/cream silk; d) cotton bump; f) cream cotton; h) undyed linen interlining. As ATT/T(Gill Medland Cat)/015. Main fabric completely gone; fabric b) with heading still intact; lining c) in fragments and patched with f); h) at heading band. Cut on three sides. a) green silk warp, ivory, pale and dark gold silk wefts. Warp faced satin ground diagonal twilled motifs. Lampas Brocade. Loom width 59.5 cm (23.3/8') three orange striped selvage. b) green (Eau de Nil) silk satin weave. Straight repeat, 168 cm drop x loom width. Neo-classical/ Victorian. Banners with tassels, flower garlands, in vases and sprays, ribbons and birds. a) gimp and ivory/gold/green silk braid 5.8 cm. b) tasseled braid 19 cm. Braid, gold silk covered gimp; cord, three strand cable cord gold silk; tassels, turned wood in four sections wrapped in gold floss silk and boucle cords. a) green (eau de nil) silk plain weave. b) as fabric (b), green satin weave. c) ivory cream silk plain weave. d) cotton bump interlining.e) undyed wool open plain weave (interlining). f) cream cotton satin weave. g) grass green linen glazed. h) undyed linen plain weave interlining. Manufactured either in England or France between 1860 and 1906.
