Summary
One of two crimson damask curtains. Silk and cotton satin weave with spot motif a) pink-gold cotton silk braid b) crimson silk and cotton braid. Pink to bleached linen hand sewn; edged on 3 sides with a)b) braids; a)b) braids used as heading band supported by twill braid, cotton satin weave band; metal rings 23 mm diam; gathered to heading band; lining has edge to edge faggoted seam,and decorative herringbone hem. Woven damask; crimson silk warp; crimson cotton weft; warp faced satin ground; plain weave unbalanced spot motif. Loom width 1180 mm (46.5 in) Spot a) Pink to gold cotton and silk brocaded braid 25 mm. b) Crimson silk and cotton satin braid (width uncertain). Pink to bleached linen plain weave (tabby). Loom width 700 mm (27.5 in). English manufacture circa 1900.
