Summary
Portiere curtain. Striped 'JASPED' and moire finished vertical stripe, deep pink undyed and crimson braid a) white towelling b) pink/mauve cotton. Completely hand sewn; trimming braid used as heading band; pinch pleated with nine rings at top; hems on four sides; braid in two horizontal bands at bottom; lining a) over lining b). Woven; deep pink; ivory; pink; gold silk warp. Undyed baste fibre weft of heavier count. Jasped warp faced satin stripe on unbalanced plain weave ground with moire finish. Loom width 1200 mm (47 in) 'Regency' jasped vertical stripe. a) undyed and crimson cotton brocaded braid 20 mm; simple flower head. a) bleached cotton 'terry' towelling. b) pink/mauve cotton twill weave glazed. Early 20th century English manufacture.
