Summary
Painted plaster cast sculpture, Flora, after Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (Valenciennes 1827 – Courbevoie 1875). A bust of a young woman coloured a shade of terracotta, entitled 'Flora'. Her head turned to the left, wearing flowers in her hair and her dress exposing one shoulder. Raised on a square socle. This bust derives from a relief sculpted by Carpeaux for a pediment on the Louvre in Paris, in 1874.
Provenance
Purchased by 8th Lord Berwick. Attingham collection; bequeathed to the National Trust by Edith Teresa Hulton, Lady Berwick (1890-1972).
